Re-envisioning concert livestreaming with emerging technology
Key Words: UX, Service Design, Physical Prototyping, Group Project, Studio Project
“Star”-Ship is a concept using emerging technology and cute little robots to redefine what it means to view a livestreamed concert. For this project, my team and I were challenged with using holograms to improve the concert livestreaming experience as we know it today.

This project centered around improving the concert livestreaming experience through implementation of emerging technology. In our case, it was holograms. Findings from early interviews and preliminary sketching led us to set a few goals to focus on for this project.
These included:
Designing a multi-touchpoint experience utilizing holographic technology that improves the current live streaming experience
Designing an experience extending past simply watching a live video feed on a hologram
Design for a scenario that would retain relevance in a post-covid world

With “Star”-Ship, the concert gets shipped to you (it’s in the name). Whether you are having a party, small gathering with friends or just want to enjoy a concert all by yourself, it’s as simple as ordering a burrito off GrubDash™ or any other food delivery app. Simply select a concert, set a delivery location, and the concert will arrive at your doorstep!
Sure, a robot can find your doorstep, but you probably don’t want to party in front of your neighbors. Thankfully, we built in a parking beacon. When the “Star”-Ship arrives, use the app as a parking beacon, place it on the ground, and the “Star”-Ship will park right in front!
The “Star”-Ship is equipped with hologram projectors and speakers to play the live concert right where you parked it. Due to the nature of the hologram, there’s no need to crowd around a screen. Instead, the performance fills the atmosphere yet frees up the environment for users to move around, dance, and enjoy the performance!
Throughout the entire process, we put a lot of emphasis on rapid prototyping, evaluating, and iterating. We tested several configurations to find the ideal projection setup, ordering experience through the app, as well as several other features to improve the concert experience.

Although many of our designs were derived from the existing and proven food delivery service, Starship, our designs presented a few unique challenges and areas of opportunity.
Opportunities to help support smaller and local music groups
Challenges for concert delivery in more urban areas
In conclusion...
I believe our solution presents a strong case that live streamed concerts can be more than sitting on a couch and watching a screen. Obvious limitations exist within our solution, especially with the current state of technology, but I hope this project encourages conversation about what it means to attend a live-streamed concert.
